Axe

An axe is one of the most basic tools around. Its design consists of a long handle of wood or fiberglass and a wide metal blade. It’s one of the oldest tools still in common use, and is even mentioned in the Torah. Did you know how multipurpose an axe can be? Historically, axes were used as a weapon in war and for protection against animals, as well as to chop down trees and split logs. Today, axes are still used to split logs, to break up ice, and all firefighters carry an axe for breaking doors and windows in emergencies.

There are all kinds of axes: carving axes, throwing axes, working axes, and splitting axes. There are international competitions in wood sculpture using axes.
