Junior Tales: Election Fever

“No taxes! Free Pizza!” 11-year-old Shimmy Spitz shouted into the bright-blue megaphone. “I’ll take some pizza,” Devorah said as she extended her hands to her brother. “After I win the election,” Shimmy smiled. “Then I’ll give pizza to everyone.”

Election fever had hitNew York Cityand with the mayoral election just days away, Shimmy also wanted a piece of the action. He and his friends were busy collecting posters, flyers, bumper stickers, and any other election memorabilia they could get their hands on. They were also busy “running for mayor” themselves.

“I’m beginning to regret buying Shimmy that toy megaphone,” Yael Spitz confided to her husband one evening, after a long day of listening to Shimmy’s electioneering.

“Well at least he knows which campaign promises to make to whom,” Menachem Spitz had chuckled. “He promised me free bagels every Sunday and school vouchers for all the kids.”

“Hmmm,” Yael Spitz murmured as she considered the generous offer. “I guess he does deserve our vote after all.”
