There are many types of lightning. In-cloud lightning (lightning within a cloud) is the most common, while cloud-to-ground lightning (when a lightning bolt strikes the ground), is the most dangerous. Ball lightning, which is very rare, is lightning in the form of a 20–200 centimeter ball, described as “floating” and illuminated. It has almost never been recorded by meteorologists, and scientists have no explanation for it.
