Mar Cheshvan Scorpius/ Akrav / Scorpion Yom Tov is over, the days are getting colder, and it feels like forever until Chanukah comes along, with its Chanukah parties, hot latkes, and fun. No wonder Cheshvan is called “Mar (bitter).”

Monday, October 12, 2015

Letter of the month: Nun The Hebrew letter associated with the month of Cheshvan is nun. And the word that’s associated with the letter nun is nefilah, which means “a fall.” What happened in Cheshvan? Hashem sent the mabul down to the world, in response to widespread sin and corruption, a worldwide nefilah, “fall.” No wonder the astrological sign for this month is Scorpio — if you see a scorpion, run! Fast!
