Benny Goes Undercover

Rose Binyamin

8:30 p.m. “Benny, what are you doing in pajamas so early? Are you tired of arguing with me about your bedtime? What a sweet boy you are becoming!” “Mom, don’t get so excited. I may be in pajamas, but I’m going out, not to bed.” “In pajamas!? It’s freezing cold outside!!” “Don’t worry, Mom. I’m taking plenty of other clothing with me. Mishpacha Junior has hired me to sneak into King Achashveirosh’s palace.

The hallways were pitch black and Benny began to get the frights. Suddenly, as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he noticed a dim light coming from a crack in a door. Stealthily, he approached, and heard voices.

“I need someone to read me a bedtime story so I can fall back asleep, and you’re sitting there turning pages. Do you value your life?”

“Your Majesty, I’m terribly sorry, but I’m not turning pages. It almost feels like there’s some Heavenly angel turning them for me!”
“So read it, I say! You can’t fight the Heavenly will!”

Benny’s hair stood on end, his ear peeled to the thick, oak door. All of a sudden he heard footsteps from down the hallway.
