W hat’s white, has oval eyes, a button nose, three whiskers on each side of its face (though, for some mysterious reason it has no mouth), sports a pink bow round its ear, and feels quite at home way up in the clouds? Meet Hello Kitty airline flights.

While there is no accurate data on the number of Hello Kitty fans, an estimate such as 18,234,565,435,755,887,434,671 tells us that Hello Kitty is a worldwide obsession. In fact, some people can’t part with Hello Kitty while in the air. Enter EVA Air, which gives you the full Hello Kitty experience thousands of feet above the ground, while carrying you to your overseas destination.

All Aboard

When flying Hello Kitty, ditch anything and everything you’ve ever known about flying. From the get go, you’ll be tickled pink (and I do mean pink) by what you’ll find.

Sanrio, the company that created Hello Kitty, partnered with EVA Air to send Hello Kitty flights to the skies in 2005. The seven Hello Kitty-themed aircrafts are all adorned with Hello Kitty and friends, and sport aircraft names such as Hello Kitty Loves Apples, Hello Kitty with Magic Stars, and Hello Kitty Around the World. Based in Taiwan, EVA Air’s Sanrio-themed flights cost just under $1,000 and fly out of North America, Europe, and Asia. Sorry, South American Jr. fans, none for you, unless you take a connecting flight to one of these locations. It gets even better! EVA Air was ranked sixth safest airline in the world.

Hello Kitty flights are very limited. Passengers who’ve booked Hello Kitty-themed flights have complained though, that sometimes, at the last minute, they’ve been switched to a standard Boeing 747, with little compensation besides a Hello Kitty-themed travel bag.

Behind this cute, fantasy character lies a multi-million-dollar operation, with Hello Kitty flight boasting an 85% occupancy rate consisting of plenty of children (and even more adults!). It’s so popular that EVA Air is increasing flights to North America soon.

It’s a Girl… Or Rather a Kitty!

Here’s a riddle for you: Can someone born in November, 1974, still be a third grader? Well, Hello Kitty’s creators think she can.

Sanrio Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company that designs, licenses, and produces products subsequently sold worldwide. Hello Kitty isn’t only their most successful product, it’s also one of the most successful marketing brands in the world. I mean, who doesn’t know Hello Kitty?


Back in the early 70s, the then-young Tokyo Company Sanrio needed a new character. They’d already created a bear, a dog, and a strawberry in its growing cast of characters, and needed a new character that could be used to decorate a plastic top-snap coin purse they were planning to produce. When they hired designer Yuko Shimizu’s to create one that would engage the preteen girl, his idea took off beyond their wildest imaginations. They thought they were only catering to preteens worldwide’; today they have fans from both genders and across all age groups. (Excerpted from Mishpacha Jr., Issue 685)
